In this workshop, participants will create the Arabic equivalent of a Latin brand’s logo. The first session will start with a one-hour lecture about the contexts of the different Arabic calligraphic styles. Then, participants will draw an Arabic logo following a step-by-step guide. This workshop will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21, and one final Saturday, April 27.

Workshop details

  • Suitable for beginners, mid-level & advanced designers and brand professionals interested in Arabic logos and branding. People from all countries are welcome; we particularly encourage people living in the Arab world to register to attend due to the focus on Arabic typography.
  • Sessions will be run in English
  • Participants must be able to attend all workshop dates

Learning Outcomes

  • Get familiar with the different styles of Arabic calligraphy and their contexts
  • Learn the structure and contrast of some Arabic letters
  • Learn how to match the size, proportions and contrast between Latin and Arabic scripts

  • White paper
  • Tracing paper
  • Pencil
  • Black pen
  • Eraser
  • Ruler
  • Functioning computer with microphone and webcam
