Historical typefaces continue to be a major source of inspiration for type designers, and even more so with the proliferation of digital archives and readily accessible visual materials. Michele Patanè will talk about what designers can learn by working with historical models, how this knowledge applies to today’s designs and processes, and how to avoid potential pitfalls.

Letterform Lectures are a public aspect of the Type West postgraduate program. The series is co-presented by the San Francisco Public Library, where events are free and open to all.
